he National Police's Detective Corps chief, Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso, claims that his failure to submit a wealth report to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had been blown out of proportion by people who wanted him out of his position.
"They have made a problem out of my wealth report, looking for my weaknesses in the hope that they can take me down," he told reporters on Tuesday.
Budi explained that he was aware that many people did not like him and were attacking him because he was responsible for investigations into all crimes nationwide, including large graft cases.
"Many people are worried; they run hot and cold over the issue, but I'm not afraid. I am protected by my family and my siblings," he said.
Since being sworn in as detective division chief on Jan. 19, Budi has yet to submit his wealth report, which is compulsory for all high-ranking state officials. He has repeatedly stated that his wealth, especially his gun and old car collections, is difficult to calculate.
However, Budi also promised on Tuesday that he would submit his wealth report, but declined to specify when. (ebf)(++++)
