ome 100 investment projects worth Rp 219.7 trillion (US$16.5 billion) are now in the construction phase, the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) head has claimed.
BKPM head Franky Sibarani said on Thursday that the projects would create some 300,000 direct and indirect jobs.
'The 100 constructions are projected to employ around 65,000 direct laborers and expected to have a 'multiplier effect' on 240,000 others,' Franky said.
Of the projects, 64 are in the industry sector, worth Rp 145.53 trillion; 14 power plant constructions with a total capacity of 2,295 MW (Rp 44.08 trillion); six plantation projects (Rp 13.5 trillion); 11 in the tourism sector (Rp 3.51 trillion); three in the transportation sector (Rp 6.56 trillion); an animal husbandry project (Rp 310.41 billion) and a mining project (Rp 6.15 trillion).
Seventy of the projects are in Java and 30 outside Java.
The BKPM, Franky added, would monitor the projects that would boost economic growth.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS), meanwhile, recorded that every $1 million investment project would employ 22,000 laborers.
Unemployment increased to 300,000 in February 2015, according to the BPS. But the BKPM recorded that the Rp 124.6 trillion investment realization in the first quarter of 2015 had employed 315,000 laborers.(+++)
