he Jakarta Prosecutor's Office named on Friday former state-owned enterprises minister Dahlan Iskan a graft suspect in connection with alleged irregularities in a power transformer procurement project worth Rp 1.3 trillion (US$100 million) between 2011 and 2013.
Jakarta Prosecutor's Office spokesman Waluyo told The Jakarta Post on Friday that investigators had found two pieces of strong evidence indicating Dahlan's wrongdoings in the multi-trillion state project, which had caused hundreds billions of rupiah in state losses.
'He is named a suspect because the alleged graft occurred when he was president director of state-owned electricity company PLN,' Waluyo said, adding that the project's budget was allocated in 2009.
According to the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office, the project centered on PLN's procurement of 21 power transformers during the 2011-2013 fiscal year, to be distributed to a number of power plants across the country, including in Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara. Of the 21 power transformers, two were found malfunctioning and 13 were broken.
Dahlan, owner of the Jawa Pos media group, was to undergo police questioning in connection with a fictitious farmland project in Kepatang, West Kalimantan, which was funded by a number of state-owned enterprises when he was state-owned enterprises minister from 2010 to 2014.(+++)
