Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said has said the government is optimistic that within the next five years Indonesia will reach 100 percent electrification.
'I'm optimistic that when Indonesia reaches its 75th year, all of its areas will be fully electrified because currently 84 percent of the country has access to electricity,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency during a media gathering event at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in Jakarta on Sunday.
Your comments:
Virtually all of the provinces suffer continued rolling blackouts. Power distribution is not even keeping up with the growing population let alone additional power to make up for decaying and/or nonexistent infrastructure.

It is very optimistic especially since state electricity firm PLN is a monopoly and government owned. Rolling blackouts that happen weekly in Bandar Lampung have become a tradition and in some cases a means of punishment for 'selected/targeted' areas. Fix what you have, before throwing the money away for substandard PLN to manage!

Indonesia needs US$304 billion in investment for electricity, but so far according to the Industry Ministry a few days ago, there has been no investment in ports this year and no funding expected for construction in 2015. Less than 2 percent of the infrastructure budget has been awarded this year (due to a lack of funds and investors staying away), so the likelihood of the electrical grid and power stations being built by 2020 is going to be a pipe dream that will never happen.
I truly wonder if people in President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's Cabinet are competent or not, especially after announcing the 30 percent tax revenue collection goal for 2015, when 2014 the tax collection was just under 7 percent. It is another totally unrealistic target.

Does that also mean that those random blackouts plaguing even large cities will be a thing of the past?
