T

he former president director of state-owned electricity company PLN, Dahlan Iskan, has accepted his status as graft suspect in connection with a central power transformer project worth Rp 1.06 trillion (US$79.14 million), as he was in charge of the project.

'€œI accept with full responsibility my being named a suspect by the Jakarta Prosecutor'€™s Office. I'€™ve decided to take responsibility because in my capacity as project leader, I am responsible for problems linked to the project,'€ he said after undergoing questioning at the Jakarta Prosecutor'€™s Office on Friday.

Dahlan has been held responsible for financial leakages in the project. According to investigators at the prosecutor'€™s office, PLN spent Rp 1.06 trillion for the procurement of power transformers and the construction of 21 central power transformers in Java, Bali and West Nusa Tenggara in 2011-2013, but three of the power transformers were broken and 12 others did not function well.

Dahlan said he would re-examine the case and the project so that he could account for his role.

Despite being named a suspect, Dahlan was not arrested as he had been cooperative in the investigation into the case.

Attorney General'€™s Office (AGO) spokesman Tony Tribagus Spontana said on Saturday that the AGO had received a letter from immigration authorities forbidding Dahlan to travel overseas.

Dahlan is likely also to be named a suspect in the fictitious farmland project in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, because he led the project financed by several state-owned enterprises when he was minister of state enterprises from 2012 to 2014. (rms)(+++)
