number of tourists, including four Australians and citizens of France, Italy, the US, Britain and New Zealand, were seriously injured when a ferry transporting them from Lombok to Padangbai in Bali exploded on Friday.
The explosion occurred only moments after the ferry, which was carrying 129 passengers, left Senggigi in Lombok en route to Padangbai in Bali.
According to information received by Deputy House Speaker Fahri Hamzah, there were no fatalities in the accident and the injured victims were undergoing intensive medical treatment at several hospitals in Mataram, Lombok.
He called on the Transportation Ministry to facilitate medical treatment for all injured victims and investigate the incident thoroughly.
'The government must give a plausible explanation of the incident. If the explosion is purely an accident, it must be announced to the public. If any laws were violated, serious action must be taken,' he said in a press release here on Saturday. (rms)(+++)
