n earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook Sarmi regency in Papua at 3:22 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
An official at the BMKG Kotabumi in Lampung, Yuharman, said the epicenter of the quake was located at 2.23 degrees southern latitude and 138.96 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 km. It was about 45 km southeast of Sarmi and 198 km northwest of Jayapura.
The quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, Antara news agency reported.(++++)
