The Indonesian judo team contributed three gold medals as the country collected an overall eight gold medals at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore on Saturday.
'It's remarkable today. Three golds is an amazing achievement. Appreciation goes to the athletes who have fought hard,' team manager Zaenun was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.
Indonesia's first gold was delivered by Muhammad Syaiful Raharjo in the men's 66-kilogram division, in which he defeated Sarawut Petsing of Thailand.
Ni Kadek Anny Andini contributed the second gold after she prevailed in the women's 56-kg over Xuan Yi Ang of Singapore.
Gerrard George rounded out the team's triumphant run with a victory in the men's 86-kg final against Nopachai Koncharat of Thailand.
Iksan Apriadi, who competed in the men's 73-kg, could have made it four for Indonesia but he was beaten by Terada of Thailand in the final.
'I'm satisfied with today's matches. It was a show that absolutely gave relief in the end,' Zaenun said.
Indonesia's other gold medals on the day came from traditional boat racing with two medals, along with athletics, canoeing and dressage contributing one gold each.
At East Coast Park, Hendro recorded the best time of 34 minutes and 23 seconds to win the 20-kilometer walk, beating Xuan Vinh Vo of Vietnam and Malaysia's Muhammad Khairil Harith Harun who took second and third place, respectively.
'The coach told me to keep myself under control. It's very hot. My heels got painful,' he said.
Indonesia's U-23 soccer team bounced back from a 2-4 loss to Myanmar in the opening game to romp to a 6-1 drubbing of Cambodia in a Group A match.
Muchlis Syaifulloh made a hat trick while Evan Dimas Darmono, Ahmad Nufiandani and Wawan Febriyanto scored one apiece.
A consolation goal for Cambodia was scored by Mony Udom Prak.
The collection of eight gold medals has hauled Indonesia into fourth place behind Singapore with 17 gold medals, Vietnam (13) and Thailand (10).
Meanwhile, Vietnamese swimming sensation Nguyen Thi Anh Vien broke two SEA Games records in less than an hour in a perfect start to her bid to win a record 11 gold medals, Reuters reported.
The 18-year-old left her rivals dead in the water as she cruised to victory in the 800-meter freestyle then dived back in the pool and won the 400m individual medley, two of the most grueling events in swimming.
Few swimmers would even consider tackling both events back-to-back but it is nothing compared to what Nguyen has planned for the next five days at Singapore's new Aquatic Centre.
With Vietnam unable to enter a team in the women's relays events, the Florida-based teenager has set her sights on winning 11 events on her own.
'I know I can do this,' she said.
Nguyen won six medals, including three gold, at the last SEA Games two years ago but announced her arrival on the world stage when she won the girls' 200m individual medley final at last year's Youth Olympics in China.
