ational flag carrier Garuda Indonesia says it has prepared several Airbus aircraft to serve its Jakarta-Surakarta flight route for three days starting from Wednesday to anticipate a jump in passengers in connection with the wedding of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's oldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Selvi Ananda.
Garuda Indonesia's Surakarta branch office sales and marketing manager, I Ketut Rudyarta, said Garuda usually served passengers of its Jakarta-Surakarta flight route with five Boeing 737 aircraft daily.
'Starting from Wednesday, Garuda will use an Airbus 330-300 for its Jakarta-Surakarta route. Thus, we won't increase our Jakarta-Surakarta flight frequencies but will add to our passenger capacity by operating several Airbus aircraft. We took this measure to accommodate a jump in passengers related to Pak Jokowi's son's wedding celebrations,' said Rudyarta.
He said Garuda would use the Airbus aircraft on its Jakarta-Surakarta flight route for three days, starting from Wednesday through Friday.
'After that, Garuda will use Boeing for its Jakarta-Surakarta route again,' he said.
Rudyarta said all tickets for business class were sold out and more than 80 percent of Garuda's tickets for all classes had been reserved.
Separately, Adisumarmo Airport general manager Abdullah Usman said that currently, only Garuda had requested additional flight frequency and passenger capacity permits for its Jakarta-Surakarta flight route.
As of Monday, he said, he had not yet received information of guests that would use private or chartered aircraft.
Nevertheless, Abdullah said, the airport's management had prepared parking lots to accommodate private or chartered aircraft.
'We have 10 parking lots, in which two lots have been allocated for regular commercial flights and one lot is for back up. Thus, we still have seven parking lots,' he said. (ebf)
