he rupiah interbank trade rate in Monday's first trading session continued to fall and approached its lowest level in the last 17 years.
According to data from Bloomberg, the rupiah opened at Rp 13,382 per US dollar compared to Rp 13,290 per dollar in the previous trading session.
At the start of the week, the rupiah is being pressured by external and domestic sentiment.
"Pressure on the rupiah, [leading to it] weakening, could further worsen today following two pieces of bad news, namely Indonesia's falling foreign exchange reserves and the strengthening of US employment data, which exceeds expectations," said research firm Samuel Sekuritas Indonesia on Monday morning as reported by kompas.com.
