House proposes Rp 20b aspiration fund for each lawmaker

T

he House of Representatives budget committee has proposed increasing the so-called aspiration fund to Rp 20 billion (US$1.5 million) per lawmaker, to help them develop their voting areas.

"We will insert [the proposal] into the 2016 state budget," said committee chairman Ahmadi Noor Supit on Tuesday, referring to the estimated total fund of Rp 11.2 trillion.

Ahmadi said lawmakers should deposit the money with local governments in their voting areas. The House members could then use the money to meet development proposals from local residents.

House Speaker Setya Novanto welcomed the proposal and said it was good because it would serve the public interest, kompas.com reported. (+++)
