TNI ready to strike against terrorism: Moeldoko

Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Gen. Moeldoko says the military is prepared to counter any act of terrorism on Indonesian soil.

Moeldoko made the statement after officiating the establishment of a joint special operation command at Lapangan Tembak in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

'€œThe joint special operation command'€™s status is on full alert at every second. It can be mobilized at any second. We know terrorism from its sources, such as Al Qaeda and the Islamic State [IS] organization. As long as [the threat] concerns our country'€™s sovereignty, we will deal with it. There is no compromise,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com.

Moeldoko said the joint force would be placed in Sentul, Bogor, West Java and its members would continue to be trained and educated in national defense doctrines.

'€œFor instance, when a threat emerges in Bali, the joint command will directly move. They will be deployed to fragile points nationwide,'€ he said, adding the skills of the joint force'€™s personnel were above average.

The officiating of the joint special operation command was preceded by anti-terror training at Borobudur Hotel and a building belonging to the Finance Ministry on Tuesday morning.

The training involved 478 personnel, including 81 anti-terror personnel from the Army, the Navy'€™s special forces (Denjaka) and the Air Force'€™s Bravo 90 special force.

The TNI deployed 12 helicopters, nine tactical vehicles, three bomb trailers, nine ambulances, nine fire trucks and three Russian-made Sukhoi war planes. (rms)(+++)
