President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo posted his first tweet since being elected president on his official Twitter account on Sunday, marking his 54th birthday.
'I'm thankful that I can share sahur [predawn meals] with my family. Happy fasting everybody. This is my first tweet as president,' he said on his official Twitter account @jokowi on Sunday.
Jokowi included his signature at the end of his tweet, indicating that it was he personally who sent the tweet to his 2.89 million followers on Twitter.
Earlier, presidential communications team member Teten Masduki confirmed that the President personally tweeted on the account. Teten further said the account was Jokowi's official Twitter handle.
'It shows that the President is officially active again on Twitter,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama, who was Jokowi's deputy when the former was Jakarta governor, also sent the President a birthday message through his official Twitter account @basuki_btp.
'The Monas [National Monument] area is beautiful, organized and orderly based on one of the instructions from Jokowi, who is celebrating his birthday today. Happy birthday, Jokowi,' he tweeted.
Twitter users across the country also conveyed birthday messages to the President via the platform, including former trade minister Gita Wirjawan. (fsu/ebf)(++++)
