he Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has officially dismissed Musi Banyuasin regency PDI-P faction head Bambang Karyanto following his arrest by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Friday for graft, allegedly amounting to more tha Rp 2.56 billion (US$192,025)
The PDI-P's ethics board chief Komarudin Watubun said that Bambang's act was deemed damaging and humiliating to the party and had violated internal party rules and went against chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri's anti-corruption stance.
'Bambang violated internal party rules and tarnished the party's name in the process. He has been terminated, effective immediately,' Komarudin said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
The KPK carried out a raid in Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra, on Friday and apprehended four people suspected of taking part in the graft. Two of them were Bambang, who is a member of the Musi Banyuasin City Council (DPRD), and Adam Munandar, a member of the Gerindra Party.
The other two were Musi Banyuasin Finance and Asset Management Agency head Syamsudin Fei and Musi Banyuasin Development Planning Board (BAPPEDA) chief Faisyar.
The four men are suspected to have been involved in the graft case relating to the revision of the regency's 2015 budget. (dyl)(++++)
