uspended Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) commissioner Abraham Samad arrived on Wednesday at the National Police headquarters in South Jakarta as a suspect in a case where he allegedly abused his power.
However, Abraham said that he did not understand the basis of the case.
"I was summoned [for questioning] today but I don't understand [the case] and think that it has been all made up as part of a criminalization scheme," he told reporters.
"However, as a good citizen of this country, I have to follow the law."
In a summons letter obtained by The Jakarta Post, Abraham was accused of abusing his power when he allegedly met with several Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) members to lobby for the position of Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's running mate in last July's presidential election.
The accusation was first revealed by PDI-P secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto, closely following the KPK's decision to name the party's sponsored police chief candidate Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan a graft suspect.
Abraham has also been named a suspect in a document forgery case by the South and West Sulawesi Police.
However, Abraham has vehemently denied both accusations and claimed that they were part of an effort to make him into a criminal. (ika)
