he United Nations (UN) will reward Indonesia for its initiative on 'Integrated Service Unit on Poverty Relief' implemented by Sragen regency for mainstream public services for poor marginalized populations.
Indonesia is one of 18 countries that will receive awards from the UN for providing innovative public services at the UN Public Service Forum, Day and Award Ceremony.
The Forum, themed 'Innovating service delivery to implement the post-2015 development agenda', was opened on June 23 in Medellin, Colombia, to mark the UN Public Service Day. The event will conclude on June 26, culminating in the official ceremony to award the winners.
'The awards highlight many innovations that help to provide better services to citizens everywhere in the world and improve people's lives,' said UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) secretary-general Wu Hongbo in a statement on Thursday ahead of the event.
'It provides an international platform to showcase some of the best examples of effective public governance.'
The three-day Forum aims to promote international and regional cooperation by providing government officials and other stakeholders an opportunity to exchange good practices, experiences and lessons learned through networking.
It also helps to build the capacity of governments, particularly in developing countries, to anticipate and respond in innovative ways to the challenges posed by the implementation of the new development agenda.
The Forum and awards are hosted by the Colombian government and organized by UNDESA, in partnership with UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). (ebf)(+++)
