political analyst from Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Arie Sudjito, has called for an audit of the House of Representatives' performance after it missed its main targets in the legislative, budgeting and control functions during the fourth sitting, which ended on Tuesday.
'The public has long criticized the House's poor performance but this is ignored. It is a good moment to audit and evaluate the House's performance,' Arie said in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.
He said the House had given priority to deliberating legislative products relating to their political interests and their parties.
'They do not review the state budget but they still ask for more funding,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
He also questioned legislators' qualifications for their legislative function because many laws had been brought to the Constitutional Court and were awaiting a decision from the court.
'Parties are busy making political maneuvers with the final goal of a Cabinet reshuffle. They seem to be waiting for recruitment to the Cabinet,' he said.
The House held a plenary session to end the fourth sitting and to go into recess on Tuesday with no draft laws having been endorsed. (rms)(++++)
