oekarno-Hatta International Airport Police said on Wednesday that they had arrested a Chinese national for stealing from other passengers aboard the plane he was traveling on.
Soekarno-Hatta airport police detective chief Comr. Azhari Kurniawan said that the suspect, identified only by the initials WX, committed his crimes during a long flight from Doha in Qatar to Jakarta.
Azhari added that the 36-year-old man was part of a theft syndication targeting planes. The syndicate allegedly stole passengers' belongings in the cabin by pretending to search for their stuff in the luggage while the victims were sleeping.
'So, it is similar to pickpockets on the bus, but this time the crime happens on a plane,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Azhari said that WX's arrest was made after the police received reports from several passengers that their belongings had been stolen from overhead lockers.
