AKARTA: West Jakarta administration demolished two security posts which stood on a sidewalk under Harco bridge in Glodok, West Jakarta, on Wednesday, in an attempt to clear the pedestrian area.
West Jakarta Mayor Anas Effendi directly led the demolition of the 3-square-meter posts.
'Sidewalks should only be for pedestrians. No buildings or posts like these are allowed to stand here,' Anas said on Wednesday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
He said he had also instructed all subdistricts in West Jakarta to keep sidewalks and decorative plant pots clean from trash.
'The sidewalks should remain clean. Dirty sidewalks can create inconvenience for the pedestrians,' Anas said.
Mangga Besar subdistrict head Rumiyati said that the subdistrict had cleaned the location but claimed that people kept throwing garbage in the plant pots.
