uhammad Nazaruddin, a convict in the Wisma Atlet Jakabaring case and former treasurer of the Democratic Party, is to be given a one-month remission for the Idul Fitri celebrations, an official has said.
'Pak Nazaruddin is one of the graft convicts at Sukamiskin Penitentiary who will receive 2015 Idul Fitri remission. His remission period is one month,' said Agus Toyib, the head of the correctional institution affairs division at the Law and Human Rights Ministry's West Java office in Bandung on Thursday.
Nazaruddin has been detained at Sukamiskin Penitentiary since May 10, 2013.
In a trial on April 20, 2012, the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Nazaruddin to four years and 10 months in prison and ordered him to pay Rp 200 million (US$15,000) in fines after being found guilty in a corruption case surrounding the development of the Wisma Atlet SEA Games in Palembang, South Sumatra.
Agus added that tax corruption convict Gayus Halomoan Tambunan would get a remission of one month and 15 days. Meanwhile, another convict in the Wisma Atlet Jakabaring construction case, Anas Urbaningrum, will not be granted remission.
'He [Anas] has not yet paid any fines or replaced losses to the state, so he is not entitled to remission,' said Agus as quoted by Antara.
For this year's Idul Fitri, he said, as many as 9,752 convicts involved in general and special crimes in West Java would be granted remission by the government.
'Currently, the number of people facing legal problems and serving their sentences at detention facilities and penitentiaries in West Java reaches 18,996 people, comprising 14,444 convicts and 4,552 detainees who are still facing legal processes. Of that total, 9,752 convicts are considered eligible for special Idul Fitri remission.' (ebf)
