he Jakarta Police say a joint force comprising 5,094 personnel have been deployed to secure the 'takbiran' road convoys to welcome Syawal 1 or Idul Fitri 1436, which will fall on Friday.
Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Mohammad Iqbal said as quoted by Antara on Thursday the police got support from military personnel, security authorities from the Jakarta administration and state-owned toll road operator company PT Jasa Marga in securing the takbiran convoys on Thursday evening.
He said the Jakarta Police deployed 2,899 personnel, while police precincts in areas across Jakarta deployed 1,750. The Indonesian Military deployed 645 personnel, while other personnel were from other government institutions, comprising 455 civilian security guards, 300 personnel from the Public Order Agency, 30 Fire Department officers, 25 Health Agency officials, 100 Transportation Agency officers and 100 Jasa Marga personnel.
Iqbal said the security personnel were readied at places where people would gather to celebrate Idul Fitri eve.
The Jakarta Police records that 69 locations in Jakarta and its surrounding areas will get close attention from security authorities. Among the locations in West Jakarta that will be monitored include Daan Mogot, Grogol, Kota Station, Kota Tua and Tomang.
In South Jakarta, security officers will monitor the Kuningan, Lebak Bulus and Pancoran areas, while in East Jakarta they will focus their attention on Jl. Pramuka, the Cawang crossroad and Pulogadung.
Areas in North Jakarta to be monitored include Bintang Mas and the ITC Mangga Dua traffic light areas and Simpang Coca-Cola, while in Central Jakarta security activities will be focused on Tugu Tani and Senen.
Iqbal said that apart from securing the takbiran road convoys, the Jakarta Police would also monitor religious observances in mosques, 'open house' events that would be held by state officials after the Idul Fitri prayer on Friday and tourist sites. (ebf)
