MH370 victims'€™ families seek clarity

F

amilies of victims of the Malaysia Airline flight MH370 in Medan have received a notification about the missing plane, and are now urging the airline company to give details in the incident.

Santi, 43, younger sister of MH370 victim Sugianto Lo, said she had received a letter through email from Malaysia Airlines about wreckage that appeared to be from an aircraft that had been found on La Reunion in the Indian Ocean, near Madagascar, southeast Africa.

'€œWe received the email at 9:10 a.m. It was an important notification for families of the MH370 victims,'€ Santi told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

Santi claimed that after receiving the letter, her family members were saddened because it dashed their hopes of ever seeing again family members who were on the flight.

'€œWe feel sad upon learning the news, but we want to know what exactly happened because we'€™ve been waiting for a long time,'€ said Santi, as she sobbed.

The letter stated that debris was being examined by experts to determine its origin. It said Malaysia was responsible for the investigation and was managing this examination with the assistance of Boeing, the BEA, the US'€™ National Transportation Safety Bureau and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau. In the event that the wreckage is identified as being from MH370, it would be consistent with other analysis and modeling that the resting place of the aircraft was in the southern Indian Ocean. Any new evidence will be used to further inform and refine ongoing search efforts.

Santi said on behalf of her family that she wished Malaysia Airlines would immediately resolve the case of the missing MH370 aircraft. She said her family had already been ready to accept it if the plane had actually crashed.

'€œIf it'€™s true the plane crashed, we are ready to accept that. However, Malaysia Airlines should convey it to us honestly, nothing can be hidden at all,'€ said Santi, who claims she still continues to pray for the safety of her elder brother Sugianto Lo and his wife Vinny Chynthya Tio.

Sugianto and Vinny were two of seven Indonesian citizens who boarded flight MH370, which was carrying 239 passengers and reported missing as it left Kuala Lumpur en route to Beijing, on March 8, 2014.

Santi claimed that until now, Malaysia Airlines had not given any compensation to the families of the victims related to the loss of aircraft. In fact, said Santi, Malaysia Airlines had not mentioned the amount of compensation to be received by families of the victims.

'€œWe are unaware of the total amount of compensation, as Malaysia Airlines has yet to notify the families,'€ said Santi.
