OGOR: The Bogor Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle 3.8 tons of marijuana worth Rp 7.6 billion from Aceh, North Sumatra, to the Greater Jakarta area via Bogor, West Java.
West Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono said on Friday that the drugs were wrapped in 81 sacks and carried using a truck.
'Police investigators seized the drug shipment in Sentul, Bogor, on Sunday,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com at the Bogor Police headquarters.
Following the foiled attempt, Sulistyo said, the police arrested Taufik, 47, who they allege to be a member of a drug syndicate in Cileungsi, Bogor.
Bogor Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Suyudi Ario Seto said that during its trip from Cileungsi to Sentul, the truck was guarded by two cars, a Honda Jazz and a Toyota Avanza.
'However, when police investigators arrived at the location, the drug dealers had escaped,' he said.
