The aide of senior lawyer Otto Cornelis Kaligis has agreed to serve as a justice collaborator, further fueling speculation that Kaligis was the mastermind behind alleged bribery involving three judges in Medan, North Sumatra.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Tuesday that investigators had recommended Kaligis'€™ subordinate, Yagari '€œGerry'€ Bhastara, to be a justice collaborator after he volunteered to become one last week.

Your comment:

The KPK needs to dig and find more of the bribes allegedly paid by Kaligis. If they do there are some cleaners and teachers that will be walking free in all likelihood.

In most countries (Singapore and Malaysia included), to practice law, you must graduate from law school, pass the bar association exams, get admitted into the Law Society/Association in your country and then get a license to practice law.

To be kicked out of the Bar Association is to be '€œdisbarred'€ and you will lose your license and (in the case of a Commonwealth country) not be allowed to practice law in any Commonwealth country.

It'€™s quite a hefty price to pay for any misbehavior, breach of law and so forth. All those years of study gone out the window! To be a judge, you need to practice law for a specified number of years, get nominated and voted in by both the current government and the Bar Association.

In other words, you got to be a senior lawyer, clean and know the law.
