he narcotics unit of the Pidie Police in Aceh on Friday seized 623 kilograms of dried marijuana during a raid at a workshop and warehouse in Teungoh Trieng, Padang Tiji district.
The marijuana, already packed neatly in hundreds of bales, was reportedly ready to be trafficked to Medan, North Sumatra, in a container truck. During the raid the police also seized the truck and arrested two suspects, identified as ND, 32, and MR, 37.
'We are still processing the two suspects and investigating the case to find out who actually owned the marijuana,' Pidie Police narcotics unit chief First Insp. Andi Cakra Putra said, as quoted by the state-run radio station RRI on Saturday.
Last week, the Medan District Court in North Sumatra sentenced two defendants, Yusri Iskandar, 32, and Robinson Tambunan, 49, to life in prison for the possession of 354 kilograms of marijuana, despite prosecutors seeking the death penalty.
