undreds of Muslims in Sampit, East Kotawaringin regency, Central Kalimantan, took part in an Istisqo (mass prayer) in the yard of Al Falah Grand Mosque, asking God to send rains to end the prolonged drought in the regency.
Among the participants were Sampit Deputy Regent Taufiq Mukri and other local officials. Many participants were also seen crying before the prayer while joining in a mass dzikir (a recitation of holy writing glorifying God).
'As Muslims we are taught how to pray for rains. Let's pray together so Allah will send rains to end the drought,' said local preacher Syarifudin, who led the mass dzikir.
Rainfall has dropped drastically in the regency over the last month. Three districts ' South Mentaya Hilir, Teluk Sampit and Pulau Hanaut ' have even suffered a clean water crisis, needing water to be brought from Sampit.
