I do not think polygamy is really a hot issue. Two or more people who want to get married should get married. People'€™s religious morals or lack thereof is not my problem. The problem is from the horrible stories we hear from time to time of young ladies who are pushed to marry the guys in power, going against the concept of consent.

The law itself sounds pretty agreeable. What'€™s not agreeable is that the Defense Ministry bothers with petty things such as this. I am sure that the number of wives our soldiers have is not exactly a matter of grave national security. It should focus on cracking down on corrupt individuals within its own ranks or even in the military.

The law on polygamy is just a law. The decision to have multiple wives is fully yours! The law will have both negative and positive impacts. If you think there are more positives, then don'€™t hesitate!

It is clear that if permission for polygamy is given from above, then this will encourage others to follow and use it as a justification for their own circumstances, regardless of ideal family principles such as loyalty and faithfulness between a husband and wife. A house divided will fall and stability will be undermined.

Rules on polygamy should rightly come from and be managed by Islamic authorities. But since there is a military rule stating that members may have only one wife, they have to come out with this statement for their soldiers who are Muslim.

I guess this is OK during times of peace, but during emergencies, how do you expect soldiers to concentrate on defending the country when they have a couple of wives at home?
