Ragunan Zoo in Jakarta has welcomed a pair of giraffes from Taroonga Zoo in Sydney, Australia.
The gift is part of Jakarta and Sydney's cooperative sister city relationship.
Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama was given the honor of naming the two giraffes during a handover ceremony on Tuesday.
He chose the name Dirgah for the male giraffe and Ayuri70 for the female.
The names celebrate the arrival of the two animals on Indonesia's 70th Independence Day.
'The name of the female giraffe does sound a bit like an email address, but hopefully it will bring goodness to Indonesia,' said Ahok in Ragunan as quoted by Tempo.co.
Dirgah and Ayuri 70, who are 10 months old, will replace Ragunan's previous one and only giraffe, who died at the age of 35 in 2012. (rad/ika)(+++)
