ommunications and Information Minister Rudiantara called on Monday for the strengthening of cyber security in Indonesia following a rapid escalation of illegal online activity.

'€œWe have to strengthen our cyber security,'€ he stated in his opening speech for the Indonesia Cyber Security Summit in Jakarta.

In an attempt to strengthen the country'€™s cyber security, the ministry has planned to form a dedicated cyber security agency in October.

However, Rudiantara said he wanted to ensure that everything was ready before the deadline.

At the summit, the National Police head of digital forensics division Muhammad Nuh Al-Azhar voiced the same concern over Indonesia'€™s readiness in terms of cyber security.

'€œReady or not, we'€™re exposed to the danger [of cyber attacks]. You wouldn'€™t want to be reactive on this and only build security measures after an incident,'€ said Nuh.

According to Nuh, as of 2014 the Indonesian Police Forensic Laboratory Centre has investigated 107 cases that have involved a total of 499 pieces of digital evidence. (ika)(++++)
