ame Sunday in the TATA Motors JCA League saw a mixed bag of performances with some outstanding all-round displays by teams in clinching victories, along with some listless performances by others in conceding defeat.
At Purwakarta, Chairos Tigers beat Ceylon CC by 32 runs in Division 2. Showing the depth of the Indonesian talent, Chairos, the top players of which had moved to other teams, had enough enthusiasm and determination to pull off an unlikely win. Winning the toss and batting first, Tigers put up a healthy 204/7 thanks to veteran Sachin's 50 runs and a useful contribution from Nando (40 runs).
Celyon started well with an opening partnership of 61 runs, but then lost wickets at regular intervals, until top scorer Avakash Lohia (37 not out) ran out of partners with Ceylon folding up for 173 runs. For the Tigers, Gema Fajar was outstanding with the ball taking, this season's first five-wicket haul conceding just 18 runs.
At Cibubur, the game between Challengers CC and the Metro Indians saw the challenger being skittled out for a paltry 91 runs. Sunil Samtani was the lone man standing with 41 runs. Ashwin (3/17) and John Anthony (2/17) shared the spoils. In reply, Kiruba Shankar's 50 runs helped Metro overhaul the target, losing only three wickets.
At the GMIS grounds, in a Division 1 fixture between the hosts GMIS and Menara CC, despite losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Menara CC got off to a good start, which laid the platform for it to post an impressive 270/9 in its 35 overs. Neetesh Pansare led the charge with an impressive 82 runs, ably supported by Subhash Modgil, who scored a rapid 40 runs.
Diwakar Mohan was the chief wicket taker with 4/35, three of which came in one over, pegging Menara back a little. Menara's opening bowlers then put the skids on the GMIS chase, reducing them to 53/5 at one stage, before a late order flourish by Mohamad Imran (55 runs) and Bharat Dholakhandi (42 runs) gave it some respectability before being all out for 210 runs, thereby losing by 60 runs.
Harish Tiwari (4/36) and Atul Kakkar (4/18) were the main wicket takers for Menara.
