No names, no pack drill: National Police Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim) director of special economic crimes Brig

The National Police Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim) director of special economic crimes, Brig. Gen. Victor E. Simanjuntak, said the police would not release the name of the candidate for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) they have named a graft suspect.
'Circulating information that has said that the police will announce the name of the suspect is not true,' he said as quoted by kompas.com in Jakarta on Monday.
Earlier, Bareskrim chief Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso said the police had named one of the KPK leader candidates as a suspect in an alleged graft case.
On Sunday, the police said they would disclose both the identity and case details of the suspect KPK commissioner candidate in a press conference on the following day.
Victor said it was common for police investigators to reveal the names of persons allegedly involved in a graft case, but it was unlikely for investigators to provide such information in a special forum.
He said announcing names of suspects in a special forum violated the law and the police upheld the presumption of innocence principle and all were equal before the law.
'We don't want to use such measures in naming someone a suspect,' the police official said.
Victor earlier said the KPK commissioner candidate who had been named a graft suspect was a former state official.
He said the police had investigated the graft case allegedly involving the KPK candidate over the last several months. The investigation was based on a report directly filed to investigators at the special economic crime directorate, he claimed. (rad/ebf)
