Disc jockey (DJ) Jeffrey Sutorius of the Dutch trance music project Dash Berlin says he uses a lot of Apple products for his work.

'€œI use a lot of Apple products. For example, I use Apple Logic X to make music, obviously that is also on the Mac. So the studio is fully equipped with Apple equipment. I also use the iPhone. So yeah, you can say I am an Apple user,'€ Sutorius told The Jakarta Post in a recent interview in Jakarta.

Sutorius added that like most musicians in the current digital age, he never forgets to bring his gadgets because they help him to find new references that he can use as inspirations for future compositions on the fly.

'€œYesterday, I went to a restaurant and they were playing traditional Bali music and then I used my recording app to record that,'€ he said.

'€œSometimes, in a different way, I hear music and I will write it down in my notebook and I can use it as an inspiration for new music.'€

Gadgets

WX-DJ1: I just recently got my hand on a new gadget, which is called the WX-DJ1, a [product of] Casio, which is a small console where you can mix just from your phone or just from your laptop. It is really mobile and this console, not only can you learn how to scratch with it, it also features a trackback. The trackback is one of the things that I am thinking about using in future shows.

iPad: Since the early beginnings of Dash Berlin, I have always brought an iPad. Why do I do this? Because it enables me to connect with people who can see the big letters on the iPad [during shows] and sometimes I can speak in Indonesian, in Chinese, in English or in Spanish, depends on where I play. It enables me to get a little bit more connected with the people especially when it is a big party.

Apps:

Algoriddim: I would recommend for DJs to use the Algoriddim app. It is manufactured in Germany. It lets you DJ on your phone just like a DJ with the music already in your phone. I see fantastic options of giving people the opportunity to play with music and the feeling of actually being a DJ with your own music.

DM1: The DM1 is a drum computer application you can download. What you can do is load up all kinds of samples and play with this until you have a certain structure or a certain beat.

Any regular piano app: with the piano app, you can create melodies that you can record on the fly. So, if you have an idea and you know how to play piano and then you want to make a certain melody, you can use the piano app.
