hairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan stated on Thursday that his party's maneuver to join the government doesn't mean that it had quit from the opposition coalition.
'PAN declared yesterday that we joined the government, but there's no statement that we have left the KMP [the opposition Red-and-White Coalition] and joined the KIH [the pro government's Great Indonesia Coalition]. KMP and KIH are no longer relevant,' said Zulkifli as quoted by Antara news agency after a meeting with KMP politicians in Jakarta on Thursday.
Zulkifli hoped that PAN's political move could act as a reassurance for the economy.
After the meeting, chairman of the Gerindra party and KMP leader Prabowo Subianto expressed his understanding of PAN's decision. Head of the coalition's presidium Aburizal Bakrie also said that the shift had not caused any friction between PAN and KMP. (rad)
