PAN hasn'€™t quit from opposition coalition: Chairman

C

hairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan stated on Thursday that his party'€™s maneuver to join the government doesn'€™t mean that it had quit from the opposition coalition.

'€œPAN declared yesterday that we joined the government, but there'€™s no statement that we have left the KMP [the opposition Red-and-White Coalition] and joined the KIH [the pro government's Great Indonesia Coalition]. KMP and KIH are no longer relevant,'€ said Zulkifli as quoted by Antara news agency after a meeting with KMP politicians in Jakarta on Thursday.

Zulkifli hoped that PAN'€™s political move could act as a reassurance for the economy.

After the meeting, chairman of the Gerindra party and KMP leader Prabowo Subianto expressed his understanding of PAN'€™s decision. Head of the coalition'€™s presidium Aburizal Bakrie also said that the shift had not caused any friction between PAN and KMP. (rad)
