resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will spendIdul Adha (Islamic day of sacrifice) in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on Sep.24 as he is scheduled to be in the area to inspect forest-firefighting efforts.
'God willing, [the President will arrive] here on Wednesday. He will support our efforts to extinguish the fires,' said South Kalimantan's acting governor Tarmizi Abdul Karim in Banjarmasin as quoted by tempo.co on Monday.
Tarmizi said that the number of hot spots in the province's forests was gradually decreasing although there were still some small-scale fires being fought by fire fighters along with local residents.
Jokowi will pray at Sabilal Mihtadin Grand Mosque on Thursday before he continues his journey in the afternoon to North Sumatra to inspect eruption mitigation at Mount Sinabung.
In Sinabung, the President will encourage the establishment of permanent shelters for victims of Mt Sinabung eruptions.
'Mt Sinabung will continue erupting, so it can't be handled temporarily. The housing and livelihood [of victims] needs a permanent solution,' said State Secretary Pratikno, kompas.com reported on Tuesday. (rad/bbn)
