P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo donated cows to be slaughteredduring Idul Adha or the Islamic Day of Sacrifice in several provinces.

During Idul Adha celebrations, a Muslim who can afford it is supposed to sacrifice an animal. In Indonesia, its usually cows, goats and sheep. The meat is distributed to friends and family, and particularly to the needy.

Jokowi sent one cow to the Sinabung region in North Sumatra for the meat to be distributed among the victims of the Mount Sinabung eruption.

'€œPresident Jokowi'€™s cow is the 'limousine' type, which weighs one ton,'€ said the head of the religious division of the North Sumatra Social Development Bureau, Sudarto Purba, as quoted by tribunnews.com on Thursday.

Jokowi himself will be doing the Idul Adha prayer in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, during his trip to inspect the wildfires in the area. He will also donate a cow to the grand mosque in the province.

In Jakarta, Jokowi is also sacrificing another huge cow, which he bought from a breeder in Surabaya. The cow weighs 1.3 tons and cost him Rp 90 million (US$6,196).

Another cow, weighing 857 kilograms, was bestowed upon Gunung Kidul regency. Riau is getting one cow, Bengkulu is getting a 1.2 ton cow and Surakarta, Jokowi's home town, gets two cows. (rad/bbn)
