myGadget: Diana Rikasari: Successful blogger with a free domain

Blogger Diana Rikasari is well known in the Indonesian blogosphere as a pioneer.

Diana was considered the first Indonesian to have started a fashion blog, back in March 2007, when she was still an industrial engineering student at the University of Indonesia.

'€œI always like to dress up and I am very passionate about fashion,'€ Diana said during a recent discussion in Jakarta explaining why an industrial engineering student like her decided to start a fashion blog.

Eight years after Diana started her blog at dianarikasari.blogspot.com, she has managed to obtain more than 100,000 loyal readers. Diana has also won several blog awards and become a public speaker in various seminars and workshops.

Her blogging success allowed her to launch her own shoe label called Up in 2011 and her products have been distributed all over Indonesia and abroad like in Singapore and Brunei.

Blogging apps

I use Blogspot, which used to be known as Blogger, from Google as my blogging platform. I decided to keep the Blogspot domain for my blog until now and I do not think I will ever use my own custom domain. This is because I feel that I owe Google and the Blogspot platform a lot. I started my blog for free with their free domain and I feel that if I ditched the Blogspot brand from my domain it would be a little bit unethical and ungrateful. I believe I will keep my blog at Blogspot and I do not have any plans to move to other blogging services.

I also installed the Blogspot application on my smartphone. I can easily do mobile blogging using the app. Usually, I use the mobile app for blog posts that contain only text. If I need to upload images, then I will use my laptop.

For image editing, I use Photoshop on my laptop and Snapsy on my smartphone.

Gadgets

I take a lot of photos for my blog. To produce excellent photos on the fly, I mostly use my iPhone 6. The picture quality from the iPhone 6 is very good and it is appropriate for my blog. It is also very practical for me to carry around.

Sometimes, when I need to take more serious photos, I will carry my Fuji X 100 and Sony 7. These gadgets are used when I really dress up and pick a special location for a photo shoot.
