A lawmaker has been accused of abusing a maid working at his house, leaving numerous wounds on his victim, who is now under the protection of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

'€œYesterday [Thursday], some friends of T, the initial of the domestic worker, sent her to us. She is now under our protection. She had injuries on several parts of her body including her ears and head,'€ LPSK head Lili Pintauli Siregar said in Jakarta on Friday as reported by kompas.com.

Lili declined to mention the name of the lawmaker, but said that her institution had accompanied the victim while she reported the abuse to the police on Thursday. Lili said that he had not received information about the motive behind the abuse.

'€œWe have also coordinated with the police to make sure that the abuse is thoroughly investigated,'€ she said, adding that her institution had helped the victim to recover from the trauma she suffered as a result of the abuse so that she could make a clear report to the police.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Mohammad Iqbal confirmed that the police had received a report about the domestic violence. '€œWe received the report yesterday [Thursday] and we have started to investigate,'€ he added.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Honorary Council deputy chairman Junimart Girsang said that his institution would also carry out an investigation.

'€œThe Honorary Council will not be silent; we will investigate. The case impacts on the dignity and image of the House of Representatives,'€ he said. (bbn)(++++)
