The Jakarta City Council (DPRD) has proposed the procurement of 101 laptops worth Rp 1.6 billion (US$120,000) in the 2016 city working plan (RKPD).

According to City Council secretary Muhammad Yuliadi, the proposal was a direct request from Council members to ease their duties when working outside the office, such as when they have a meeting with their constituents.

"There is a request from [the Council members] regarding the availability of laptops when they are working outside [the DPRD building]," said Yuliadi on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

Separately, the Gerindra Party faction member Prabowo Soenirman said that the proposal was necessary and the budget of Rp 1.6 billion for 101 laptops was reasonable.

"[The budget is] less than Rp 10 million per person. [The laptop] will be use to write meeting results, presentations and store other materials," said Prabowo.

In addition to the laptops, the Council also proposed the budget for 12 work visits to Bali and several other countries, including the US, Hungary, the Netherlands, China, Japan and South Korea.

The budget listed in the 2016 RKPD is not yet final and needs to be approved to become the 2016 city budget (APBD), which is still being discussed. (kes)(++++)
