The bodies of the 10 casualties of the fatal Aviastar plane crash, comprising three crew members and seven passengers, have been found, as well as the aircraft's black box, according National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) head FH Bambang Soelistyo.
'We have brought the 10 bodies and the black box down and have also found a part from the plane,' Soelistyo said. The 10 bodies were taken to Makassar on Tuesday on board two helicopters belonging to Basarnas and the Indonesian Military (TNI).
The bodies arrived at the Air Force's main base of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar at 6:20 p.m. and 6:50 p.m. local time, respectively.
The bodies were then handed over by Bambang to South Sulawesi Police chief Insp. Gen. Pudji Hartanto Iskandar for the identification processes to be conducted by the police's disaster victim identification (DVI) team at Bhayangkara Hospital Makassar.
The black box which contains the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and the fragment from the aircraft bearing the name of the ill-fated plane were handed over by Basarnas to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
Your comments:
There are so many crashes I can't keep up. What happened to the AirAsia crash? They recovered
the black box, so why has it been so long with no news? I heard the pilot was walking around in the cockpit at the time of the crash. Was its pilot error?

It's incredible that there has been no explanation or press conference on the contents of the investigation of the AirAsia crash or the black box. Everybody in the government forgot what happened and that's why we have things like this happen again and again.

No one seems to care much about the truth here.

Among other factors, the high frequency of national aviation disasters reflects the sorry state of our national commitment to high aviation safety standards. It also relates to the pervasive and corrosive practice of buying off officials, regulators, inspectors, government officials, resulting in compromises for mutual gain. We urgently need a new work ethic culture which must begin with the political elites. I'm still optimistic that we will make meaningful changes.
