Turkey warned Russia on Monday against violations of the airspace by warplanes flying over the border from Syria as NATO called an emergency meeting over the 'unacceptable' intrusion.
Ankara, A NATO member, protested to Moscow after its F-16 jets intercepted a Russian fighter plane that violated its air space near the Syrian border over the weekend, forcing it to turn back.
Two Turkish jets were also harassed by an unidentified MIG-29 on the Syrian border, Turkey's Army said.
'Our rules of engagement are clear whoever violates our air space,' Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told Haber-Turk Television.
Your comments:
Turkey is so obsessed with the Kurdish push for independence, and so keen on pleasing Saudi Arabia, that it has resumed its dirty war against the Kurds while carefully skirting any action that may hurt Sunni Muslim terrorists. Turkey deserves to be taught a lesson. It would not be scandalous thing if Russian planes were to destroy some Turkish F-16s engaged in bombing Kurd-controlled territory.

Turkey attacked the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) because the PKK violated the cease-fire and killed two Turkish police. Turkey is the only country that really cares for the Syrian people. Turkey has taken in two million Syrian refugees. How many refugees have Russia or Iran taken in? Islamic State (IS) group was created because Bashar al-Assad decided to massacre his own people. Turkey and Al-Assad used to be good friends until Al-Assad started to kill his own people.

Assad needs to be removed in order to isolate Iran. Install democratically elected leaders in Syria (preferably moderates) who are friendly to the US, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Cut off support to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Then we will move into eternal peace.

The PKK had stopped attacks in Turkey until the Turks bombed them under the pretence of attacking IS.

Russia has only just started carrying out airstrikes in Syria and the extremist militant groups cannot be defeated by airstrikes alone, so let's wait and see what the Russians do over the long term after the media circus surrounding their military presence in Syria has died down.

The Russians will wipe out the foreign mercenaries before they complete their run over Turkish borders.

So let me get this right, it's fine for Turkey, the US and their allies to encroach upon Syrian airspace and drop bombs, but it's a major incident when a Russian jet accidently crosses into Turkish airspace?
