Police have named Agus Darmawan a suspect in the raping and killing of a nine-year old girl identified only as PNF. '€œAs a result of all our efforts, we name one person -- AD alias AP alias OM -- as a suspect,'€ said Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian as reported by tribunnews.com on Saturday.

Police said Agus could face the death sentence if found guilty.

PNF was killed and allegedly raped on Oct. 2. Her body was found with hands bound inside a cardboard box in Kalideres district, West Jakarta. The body was discovered by a passerby, who was curious when he saw a big cardboard box placed on the sidewalk of Jl. Sahabat, Kamal. The man reported his finding to a nearby police station.

Since the beginning, the investigation was focused on Agus, who according to police was a friend of the victim's parents. Agus has previously been named a suspect for allegedly raping a teenage girl in a separate case.

Jakarta City Police detective and general crime director Sr. Comr. Krishna Murti said the police had seized three documents and 11 other pieces of evidence, taken testimonies from three experts and interrogated Agus, before naming him a suspect.

According to Krishna, the DNA of the suspect matches that found on the victim, and a blood spot found on the bed of the suspect also matches with the DNA of the victim. (bbn) (++++)
