Jakarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama and his wife, Veronica Tan, visited Untung Jawa Island in Thousand Islands regency on Saturday to launch one of the first parks under the Child Friendly Integrated Public Spaces (RPTRA) program.

Among those who attended the event were five ambassadors to Indonesia: Swiss Ambassador Yvonne Baumann, British Ambassador Moazzam Malik, Singapore Ambassador Anil Kumar Nayar, Danish Ambassador Casper Klynge, and Dutch Ambassador Rob Swartbol.

The Amiterdam park is equipped with playgrounds and other facilities. During the opening ceremony, Ahok stressed the importance of the park in fostering creativity in children, as reported by kompas.com.

The governor added that building dozens of RPTRA sites was part of the city administration'€™s efforts to expand recreational facilities badly needed for Jakarta residents, especially children.

The RPTRA program was one of a number of recent measures by the city administration to serve the public, Ahok said, along with one-stop public service facilities in each subdistrict, the appointment of doctors and nurses in each health center (Puskesmas) and the deployment of workers to repair infrastructure in each subdistrict.

The newly launched RPTRA Amiterdam is equipped with various facilities, including a library, playground, futsal court, beach volley court and Wi-Fi coverage.

The Jakarta administration plans to develop 60 RPTRA parks this year and 150 more next year, with the involvement of private companies. So far, five RPTAR parks have been developed in the capital. (bbn)(++++)
