The House of Representatives have to consider cutting the 2016 budget allocations for ministries and other government institutions that have failed to spend their budgets this year, a lawmaker says.

'€œBudget allocations for certain ministries should be cut due to their weak performance this year. But allocation for other ministries could be increased if those ministries have strategic plans like the Public Works Ministry,'€ said Ridwan Bae, a member of House'€™s Budgetary Body.

According to Ridwan, the Transportation Ministry is one of the worst government institutions in terms of budget spending because Transportation Minister Ignatius Jonan has changed around some 3,000 employees within his ministry that certainly contributed to the sluggish move of his ministry in spending their budget.

Ridwan said that the unexpected budget spending was also affected by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's move to make some changes in their government, including the formation of new ministries and other institutions.

He said that the House had finished deliberating the 2015 revised state budget in April, but some institutions currently had not finished their tenders for certain projects, which delayed projects significantly. (bbn)(+)
