Jakarta Police have arrested a Central Jakarta Immigration Office official and four other people for allegedly extorting a Taiwanese national.
The arrest of the immigration official, MS, and the other four suspects, YN, NS, RA and SS, was based on a report from Yuan Ming His, the Taiwanese victim, on Nov. 2. The five suspects told Yuan that they were officers from the National Police.
They told the victim that he could not extend his stay permit because he was accused of being involved in banknote forgery and adultery with NS, one of the suspects.
'Then, the suspects demanded Rp 10 billion [US$735,000] from Yuan,' said head of Jakarta Police Criminal Division Sr. Comr. Krishna Murti in Jakarta on Friday as quoted by kompas.com, adding that the police were hunting five other suspects in the same case.
The suspects were accused of violating article 368 of the Criminal Code which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. (bbn)(+)
