The Jakarta-Bandung bullet train project is set to begin construction at the beginning of the second quarter in 2016, according to president director Hanggoro of the state enterprises consortium PT Pilar Sinergi BUMN Indonesia.

"We are currently waiting for the issuance of the Environmental Impact Analysis permit; the process is still underway at the Environment and Forestry Ministry," said Hanggoro in Bandung on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Other project requirements that were still in process, he added, included project implementation recommendations from the West Java governor and Jakarta governor.

"Alhamdulillah [thanks God], the West Java governor has been very supportive during the project preparation process," added Hanggoro.

All preliminary requirements are targeted to be finished by April 2016, and will later be followed by a groundbreaking ceremony. The construction itself is targeted to take around three years with an estimated total budget of US$5.5 billion.

Around 75 percent of the budget will come from the China Development Bank and the rest will be provided by the consortium's four state-owned companies, construction firm PT Wijaya Karya, railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia,  plantation firm PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII and toll road operator PT Jasa Marga.
