Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama aims to launch the multi-function Jakarta One card before his tenure ends in 2017.
Ahok said on Monday that the card, which is being created in collaboration with the city-owned lender Bank DKI, would function as an electronic ID card (e-KTP), a payment system for public transportation, shopping and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) tolls, and as a Social Security Management Agency (BPJS) health insurance card.
"I will be [governor] until October 2017. If possible, the card will be launched before then," he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Ahok said he had recently asked the Bank Indonesia (BI) to accelerate the implementation of the multi-function card and thus it could only be issued with a BI permit.
The city administration will give all its population data to the central bank to help speed up the process.
"We will hand all of the data to be analyzed [to BI] because we want all Jakarta residents to have this card," Ahok said.
The Central Bank's electronic and financial inclusion program director Pungky Purnomo Wibowo vowed to fast-track the establishment of the Jakarta One card. He aims for the entire card system to be fully functional in time for the Asian Games 2018.
"We will coordinate with various administration units (SKPD) to accelerate the launch of the Jakarta One card," he said.
During an event to commemorate Jakarta Smart City's one-year anniversary in December, Ahok explained that the Jakarta One Card would be part of the city's larger Smart City program. The card would contain comprehensive information about its holder, including basic data, financial information, family card number and ID number, he said. (liz/rin)
