Netherlands national Yohanes Antonius Maria has stabilized after being left in a critical condition after Thursday's suicide bombing and gunshot attacks on Thursday.
Mursaleen, a relative of Yohanes, said early Friday that the 52 year old had undergone a surgery on his back at around 2 p.m. at RSAPD Gatot Subroto Hospital in Central Jakarta.
"Yohanes is no longer in a critical condition," Mursaleen said early on Friday morning.
Yohanes, a staff member at the UN Office for REDD++ Coordination in Indonesia (ORCID), suffered shrapnel wounds all over his body, including from nails.
He was at Starbucks coffee shop when the suicide bombings and shootouts between terrorists and police took place in Jakarta's main road, Jl. MH Thamrin, in Central Jakarta.
Representatives from the Netherlands Embassy visited the hospital to check on his condition on Thursday but gave no statement to the media.
It was initially reported by police that a Netherlands national had died from gunshot wounds, but this later proved to be a mistake.
A Canadian and an Indonesian national, and five attackers, died in the attacks, police have confirmed. (rin)(+)
