The government is set to announce on Thursday a revision to the negative investment list (DNI), one of the main points in its tenth economic policy package.

Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said the government had to delay the announcement of the economic policy package due to a long discussion in the plenary Cabinet meeting.

"The DNI will be announced tomorrow [Thursday] at 2 p.m," said Pramono at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He explained that the revised DNI would give full protection to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). "SME projects with a value of Rp 10 billion [US$743,772] will be given protection," he said.

With the policy package, the government aims to cut down on oligarchic chains and cartels in some sectors in addition to implementing policies to control prices and to prepare Indonesians for global competition.

"With the revision of the DNI, we expect more job opportunities will be available and we can improve the competitiveness of our national economy," Pramono told journalists.

He said the revised DNI aimed at modernizing the Indonesian economy rather than liberalizing it. (ebf)(+)
