T

he Indonesia Consumers Foundation (YLKI) has advised people to delay purchasing properties constructed on a disputed islet in Jakarta Bay due to the uncertain legal status of the project.

YLKI chairman Tulus Abadi criticized PT Muara Wisesa Samudra (MWS), the developer of property on reclaimed Islet G, for marketing its project even though it has not obtained the necessary licenses, including the building construction permit (IMB).

"It is regrettable that the developer had promoted the project even though its licenses have not been granted. It means the developer is trying to trap consumers. It’s a fraud," Tulus Abadi told thejakartapost.com.

PT MWS, a subsidiary of PT Agung Podomoro Land Tbk, has offered future buildings on Islet G via advertising.

Islet G is one of 17 islets to be constructed in Jakarta Bay, and the legality of project is still being debated at the City Council. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested a city councilor last week for allegedly receiving a bribe from PT Agung Podomoro Land.

YLKI urged the city administration to ban the promotion of property on reclaimed islets before the legal documents are complete. “The reclamation projects are facing some legal issues. It will disadvantage the consumers,” Tulus added.

Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama stressed that the reclamation projects would continue, saying that his permits were based on regulations issued in 1995. (bbn)
