he Indonesian government has expressed concern over an earthquake in Myanmar registering 6.9 on the Richter scale and centered 396 kilometers north of the capital Naypyidaw, on Wednesday.
The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon would continue to monitor and update information and coordinate with local authorities after the quake, said the Foreign Ministry’s director for Indonesian national protection and legal aid, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal.
“No fatalities have been reported so far,” he said on Thursday.
The government has called on all Indonesian citizens currently in Myanmar to keep themselves informed about the earthquake.
Furthermore, all Indonesians are reminded to follow the directives of local authorities.
Based on Foreign Ministry data, 609 Indonesians live in Myanmar but there are not believed to be many Indonesians in the area where the earthquake occurred. (sha/bbn)
